Creative Stormwater Management

Managing stormwater on site is another important, but lesser known, concept in environmental design. The global increase in impervious surfaces over the past decade has increased the frequency and intensity of flooding, as well as of contaminates in water bodies. Local and regional action is being taken by numerous government agencies to decrease and monitor stormwater runoff. Slowing stormwater runoff on site and increasing the infiltration rate not only reduces erosion, but also recharges local aquifers.
